Apple //e computer with running eXit game Photo by Xenia Rastvorova

Description

A replica of a text quest game that appeared in S4E11 of Mr. Robot series. Basically, that’s a copy of existing web-version of this game, but written completely in Applesoft BASIC to be natively ran on Apple ][ computers.

Story

In 2018 I discovered TV show called Mr. Robot. I instantly got hooked on this show because of beautiful framing, unpredictable plot twists and most important - details to technical side of plot. Almost all things happening in show related to hacking are absolutely possible in real life.

Also producers of Mr. Robot nested a lot of easter eggs. Almost every domain name, IP address, phone number appeared in show will lead you to living resource in real life. But unfortunately one of easter eggs created for this show uncovered one technical inconsistency. Long story short: computer made in 1980 was running website designed for modern computers, which is technically impossible.

I decided that instead of ranting on writers of series I will create my own copy of this game which could be run on computer used in TV show.

It took some time since timeline was quite blurred because of COVID-19 but I successfully finished this project and presented results about this project on MacPaw Tech Talks.
